Cadre d'évaluation de systèmes de recherche d'information géographique Apport de la combinaison des dimensions spatiale, temporelle et thématique
National audienceCommon search engines process users' queries, i.e., information needs, by extracting terms from documents. Such approaches are limited regarding particular contexts, such as specialized collections (e.g., cultural heritage collections) or specific retrieval criteria (e.g., multidimensional criteria). In this paper, we consider Geographic Information Retrieval Systems (GIRS) exploiting the spatial, temporal, and topical dimensions. Our contribution is twofold as we propose a GIRS evaluation framework for testing the following assumption: combining spatial and temporal dimensions along with the topical dimension improves GIRS effectiveness
IRIT, GeoComp, and LIUPPA at the TREC 2013 Contextual Suggestion Track
International audienceIn this paper we give an overview of the participation of the IRIT, GeoComp, and LIUPPA labs in the TREC 2013 Contextual Suggestion Track. Our framework combines existing geo-tools or services (e.g., Google Places, Yahoo! BOSS Geo Services, PostGIS, Gisgraphy, GeoNames) and ranks results according to features such as context-place distance, place popularity, and user preferences. We participated in the Open Web and ClueWeb12 sub-tracks with runs IRIT.OpenWeb and IRIT.ClueWeb
Normalizing Spatial Information to Better Combine Criteria in Geographical Information Retrieval
International audienceIt is generally accepted that geographical information or G.I. (such as texts, maps and tables) is chiefly composed of 3 kinds of criteria : spatial, temporal and thematic criteria. The main focus of this article is spatial criteria. More specifically, we have developed a processing sequence that can extract the spatial information contained in non-structured cultural heritage texts. This processing sequence indexes spatial information, which enables information retrieval (I.R.) based on the same criteria. Our goal is to normalize heterogeneous spatial information. This normalization is carried out at the index level by grouping spatial information together and by using statistics to calculate weights of spatial areas and the pertinence of the results. Thus, we aim to develop a general IR strategy that is dedicated to spatial information, but which can be applied to temporal and thematic information as well. By generalizing this approach, homogeneous IR strategies will be able to combine spatial, temporal and thematic criteria for more efficient geographic IR methods
Construction et enrichissement automatique d'ontologie Ă partir de ressources externes
National audienceAutomatic construction of ontologies from text is generally based on retrieving text content. For a much more rich ontology we extend these approaches by taking into account the document structure and some external resources (like thesaurus of indexing terms of near domain). In this paper we describe how these external resources are at first analyzed and then exploited. This method has been applied on a geographical domain and the benefit has been evaluated
Recherche de relations spatio-temporelles : une méthode basée sur l'analyse de corpus textuels
International audienceThis paper presents a work package realized for the GĂ©Onto project. A new method is proposed for an enrichment of a first geographical ontology developed beforehand. This method relies on text analysis by lexico-syntactic patterns. From the retrieve of n-ary relations the method automatically detect those involved in a spatial and/or temporal relation in a context of a description of journeys
GeoStream: Spatial Information Indexing Within Textual Documents Supported by a Dynamically Parameterized Web Service
International audienceCultural heritage content is everywhere on the web: digital libraries, archives, and portals of museums or galleries. Cultural heritage document collections are characterized by contents related to a territory and its land's history. In this context, the GeoTopia project is supported by the CNRS-TGE-Adonis and focuses on archive data sharing and interpretation. It consists in a Content Management System (CMS) that aims to manage a repository of multimedia digital documents: it exploits information like origin, theme, period, area, etc. to index and/or query documents. Our contribution is dedicated to spatial information contained in non structured textual documents. More specifically, we have developed a process flow that can extract the spatial information contained in textual documents. This process flow indexes spatial information and computes precise geolocalized representations. We propose to encapsulate it into the GeoStream specific web service and to make its behavior dynamically customizable for easier integration into such platforms used for the management of cultural heritage electronic document
